Unreal Engine
Installing Aura from Fab
This guide is for users who installed Aura from the Fab store through the Epic Games Launcher. If you installed Aura with the Aura installer instead, follow the Quick Start.
A Fab install gives you the Aura plugin itself. The first time you open Aura, a one-time setup step adds the rest of what Aura needs to run. You do this once per engine install, and again after each Aura update (see Updating).
1. Enable the plugin
- Open your Unreal Engine project.
- Go to Edit > Plugins, search for Aura, and enable it.
- Restart the editor when prompted.
2. Install Aura's dependencies
-
Click the Aura button at the top of the editor.
-
The first time, an Aura First-Time Setup prompt appears. Click Open in Browser. It brings you to this page.
-
Download and run the Aura dependency installer:
-
Keep Unreal Engine open while the installer runs.
3. Sign up
While the installer runs, create your Aura account if you do not have one yet:
If you already have an Aura account, skip to the next step.
4. Sign in
When the installer finishes, Aura detects it and opens the Aura window on its own. Sign in with the account you just created. No editor restart is needed.
If the Aura window does not open within a minute, click the Aura button again.
5. Redeem your free year of Aura Indie
Your Fab purchase includes a free year of Aura Indie.
- In the Aura window, click the gear icon in the top bar (Settings, or press
Ctrl+,). - Choose Account, then click Manage Account. Your Aura account page opens in your browser.
- Under Bought Aura on Fab? Redeem your order, paste your Order ID and submit.
Your Order ID is on the receipt Fab emailed you when you bought Aura. The receipt lists an Invoice ID and an Order ID. Use the Order ID, the longer of the two: one letter followed by 16 digits, like A1234567890123456.
Updating
When a new version is out, Aura shows an update notice. Unless it says Update Required, you can update whenever you like.
An update has two parts: the plugin, from the Fab store, and its dependencies, from the Aura dependency installer. Update the plugin first, and Aura prompts you for the rest.
- Save your work and close Unreal Engine.
- In the Epic Games Launcher, go to Unreal Engine > Library, scroll to Fab Library, and update Aura.
- Open your project and click the Aura button. An Aura Update Required prompt appears. Click Download installer.
- Run the installer and choose your engine version. When it asks to close Unreal Engine, click OK.
- Reopen your project and click the Aura button.
Repeat these steps for each engine version you use Aura with.
Having trouble?
- Check Installation Issues.
- Ask in the Aura Discord.
